Czinger's 21C Spyder: Downforce Up, Roof Off, and a Cabin Built Around One Structure
The $2.75 million open-top hypercar loses its roof panel but gains chassis rigidity, a 1,250-hp hybrid powertrain, and a dashboard that consolidates controls and vents.
BrakeNode: A Single-Piece Brake That Cuts Stopping Distance by 15 Percent
Czinger's BrakeNode is a radical integration: the suspension upright, brake caliper, and hydraulic fluid channels are machined as a single component, eliminating the usual joints and flex. This consolidation reduces unsprung mass by 1.5 pounds per wheel and, according to Czinger, cuts stopping distances by up to 15 percent compared to conventional setups. The front calipers use titanium pistons, which keep brake fluid 15 percent cooler than stainless steel pistons, and they clamp onto 16.1-inch front and 15.3-inch rear carbon-ceramic rotors. A mechanical disc bell connects the rotor to the hub. In practice, the design makes maintenance easier: pads can be swapped through the top of the structure, rotors tilt out from the side, and a drain plug at the bottom simplifies fluid changes—no caliper removal needed. The calipers are available in a range of colors, so owners can personalize even the braking hardware.

Downforce: 3,307 Pounds with the Roof On, 3,267 Pounds with It Off
The Spyder's aero package is shared with the HDF coupe, producing 3,307 pounds of downforce at 150 mph with the roof in place, and 3,267 pounds with the roof removed. Nearly 60 percent of that downforce is directed to the rear axle for high-speed stability. Key elements include a 76-inch swan-neck rear wing and a full-length underbody diffuser that wraps around the rear subframe and gearbox. The downforce numbers are substantial for an open-top car, and the rear bias helps keep the car planted through fast corners. With the roof off, top speed is 205 mph, which speaks to the balance between drag and downforce. The design also integrates the seven-speed single-clutch transaxle within the diffuser's airflow path, contributing to the car's aero efficiency.

Powertrain: A 2.88-Liter Twin-Turbo V8 Plus Three Electric Motors
The Spyder uses the same hybrid powertrain as the 21C HDF. The engine is a Czinger-designed, flat-plane-crank twin-turbo 2.88-liter V8 that makes 750 horsepower and 396 pound-feet of torque on its own, revving to an 11,000-rpm redline. It weighs just 231 pounds—a compact package chosen to satisfy California emissions rules and fit the car’s tight rear layout. That internal-combustion unit drives the rear wheels through a seven-speed, single-clutch Xtrac transaxle. Three electric motors assist: two on the front axle and one on the crankshaft. The rear motor mainly acts as a generator for two 800-volt, 2.1-kWh battery packs and helps reduce turbo lag. Total output is 1,250 horsepower and 691 pound-feet of torque. The electric motors allow the car to pull away on battery power at start-up, letting the catalytic converters warm up before the gas engine kicks in.

Performance: 0-60 in 1.9 Seconds, Quarter-Mile in 8.7 Seconds
With all-wheel drive and that power output, the 21C Spyder is claimed to hit 60 mph in 1.9 seconds and cover the quarter-mile in 8.7 seconds. Official top speed is 205 mph with the roof in place. The single-clutch transmission’s shifts are smoothed out by the electric motors, a common trick in hybrid hypercars to avoid the jolt of a conventional automated manual. The Spyder also rides on a dual-A-arm pushrod suspension with adjustable dampers that offer four ride settings, from Street to Track+. Michelin tires wrap staggered 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels—the new five-spoke design is open to show off the BrakeNode calipers. Stopping is handled by carbon-ceramic rotors measuring 16.1 inches in front and 15.3 inches in the rear.

Open-Top Design: 22-Pound Roof Panel and A-Pillar Reinforcement
The Spyder is the third 21C variant, following the original, the longtail VMax, and the record-setting HDF. It’s essentially an open-top version of the HDF, sharing its aero package and powertrain. The carbon-fiber roof panel weighs just 22 pounds and is held on by two latches, making it easy to remove. When not on the car, the panel can be mounted on the BioLogic frame in the garage. There’s also a foldable soft top that stows inside the cabin for unexpected weather. Because the 21C was designed from the start with a convertible in mind, Czinger didn’t need to reinforce the tub, but it added carbon-fiber piling in the A-pillars to maintain rollover safety and pass FMVSS crash tests. The curb weight is 3,571 pounds, only 22 pounds more than the coupe.

NeuralNode Dashboard: A Single Structure for Controls and Vents
The Spyder introduces a redesigned dashboard called the NeuralNode, a single large structure made with the same additive manufacturing as the BrakeNode. Forward-facing air vents flow through hollow channels, doing away with separate vent assemblies. The climate controls, lights, wipers, and other functions are now floating clusters on either side of a more prominent red start button. The mirror, window, and infotainment controls in the doors are machined from matching metal. The steering wheel is reshaped and fully leather-wrapped, and Czinger adds a cupholder plus new phone and key mounts. Wireless Apple CarPlay is available through the gauge cluster, and the audio system is an 8-speaker Morel Hi-Fi setup with carbon-fiber speaker cones, three speakers in each long door, and thin subwoofers. But with the roof off, you’ll likely hear the intake and the 11,000-rpm V8 more than anything else.
