Even without one of the $1,200 lottery tickets that grant entry to the Quail, the US-spec Morgan Supersport will be hard to miss during Monterey Car Week. Morgan says the car will be tooling around the Monterey Peninsula all week, giving enthusiasts a chance to see the flagship outside the gates. The Quail appearance marks the Supersport's official US introduction, though no formal launch event has been announced.
Bonded-Aluminum Chassis Replaces 84-Year-Old Steel
The Supersport rides on Morgan's CXV-Generation bonded-aluminum platform, a structure that replaces the steel ladder frame the company used for 84 years. A report from the Aluminum Extruders Council, published six years ago when the CX-generation debuted, credited the change with a 'several hundred percent' improvement in torsional rigidity. The bodywork stays true to tradition—hand-formed aluminum panels over a semi-structural ash wood frame—which keeps the car's classic character while modernizing its bones.
Weight Savings: 2,520 Pounds Curb
The new chassis itself weighs just over 200 pounds, contributing to a dry weight of 2,233 pounds for the Morgan. For US-spec models, curb weight comes to 2,520 pounds—still remarkably light for a modern sports car. That figure helps the Supersport deliver the more refined, engaging ride Morgan promised from the bonded-aluminum structure. The numbers reflect the platform's central role in the car's performance and efficiency.
BMW Power and ZF Eight-Speed
Under the hood sits a BMW B46 TwinPower Turbo inline-four producing 255 horsepower, mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox. It's the latest chapter in a partnership between Morgan and BMW that began with the Aero 8 in 2000 and has now lasted 25 years. The choice of a BMW engine gives the Supersport proven reliability and easy service from a global network, a practical advantage for US owners who plan to drive it regularly.
Two Roofs, Two Personalities
Morgan offers the Supersport with a choice of either a carbon composite hard top or a folding mohair soft top. The hard top weighs just 43 pounds and features a large, curved glass rear screen that opens up a vast daylight area, enhancing visibility and cabin brightness. The soft top provides a more traditional open-air feel. Each roof gives the car a distinct persona, letting buyers tailor the Supersport to their driving habits.
US Market Momentum After 2023 Return
Morgan has been rebuilding its American presence since returning with the three-wheeled Super 3 in 2023, which used a Ford 3-cylinder engine. Four-wheeled models came back in October 2024 with the Plus Four, and more than 350 examples have since reached customers across the country. The Supersport now arrives as the first flagship Morgan available in the US since the Aero models disappeared over 15 years ago, signaling a renewed commitment to this market.
Priced at $119,995, But No Official Announcement
Morgan has not released an official price for the Supersport, but the company's configurator lists a starting price of $119,995.
